I'm Kris Kazan --- I love volcanoes, history, nature, onsen culture, and Japan --- This site and my Youtube channel are in celebration of these affections, dreams, aspirations, and exploration.
An NHK Travel Series exploring Japan's ~87 accessible active volcanoes (total active 111), the local culture, the volcanic history, and surrounding hot springs towns inspiring travelers to explore the thousand year old culture of onsen (hot springs bathing) whose very existence is born from the living volcanos and geologic activity of Volcanic Japan.
My day job is in Software Sales and Account Management. I'm located on the US West Coast just north of Los Angeles, CA and south of Santa Barbara, CA however enjoy bi-annual visits to Japan to visit family & friends.
I grew up somewhat indoctrinated into the mysticism of Japan through several silk screen paintings my grandfather brought back during his time there as part of the post World War 2 reconstruction period/effort.
These paintings of my childhood hung upon my bedroom walls then as they still do now, emblazoning an image and allure of stratovolcano's, and at the time, of a culture unknown to me and oceans away in both time and distance. Surrounded by these block print nature scenes, my dreams were inspired well into adulthood...
...and, they have remained with me and will continue to inspire me for the rest of my days. Having now been to Japan well over 8 trips and about 2 years living in-country and having explored the temples and big metro areas in previous trips, my focus is now at the root of my childhood interest of the geology, the volcanos, and the nature and culture surrounding them.
